Evaluation of an antioxidant compound on the seminal parameters of sperm concentration, motility and morphology in patients with Oligo Astheno Teratozoospermia.
Mateos Blanco, Jesús; Cabo Gonzalez, Juan Alonso Rev. Internacional Androl.2011; 09:109-15.
Introduction:
Currently the male factor is solely responsible in 40% of cases of infertility in couples, with the female factor sharing an additional 20%, which combined represents 50% of all cases. Despite the lack of scientific evidence, the empirical treatment has been widely used and continues to be, basically at the expense of compound of vitamins and other trace elements, which due to its antioxidant power, permits the improvement of seminal parameters such as motility and morphology.
Objectives:
To study the changes in seminal parameters in a group of patients with Idiopathic Oligo Astheno Teratozoospermia who were treated with the antioxidant compound. Material and methods: 40 patients with Idiopathic Oligo Astheno Teratozoospermia were treated with the antioxidant compound Androferti®/OXIMUM®(Laboratory Q Pharma).
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
The study demonstrated improvement in the seminal parameters: concentration; progressive motility; and morphology between 3 - 6 months of treatment, presenting statistical significance. Given the improvement in motile sperm count, this allows these patients to turn to assisted reproduction techniques such as In vitro Fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection treatment cycles (ICSI) with better guarantee, or even, couples that due to initial motile sperm count had to resort to other reproductive techniques, can finally resort to artificial insemination (AI) in light of the improvement experienced.
